Croatia Customs Information

Customs Information

Please take a moment to review important customs information before shipping to Croatia.

Personal Effects Customs Clearance Croatia

Holiday baggage and other time sensitive packages should not be sent on this route.

The volume of shipments sent to this destination across the last 12 weeks has not been sufficient for it to meet our minimum number of on time shipments required for holiday baggage approval.

Shipments of Personal Effects will require a copy of the owner’s passport and a copy of their flight ticket to be uploaded to their Send My Bag account to demonstrate to customs that they have travelled or will be travelling to Croatia from the country they are shipping from.

The majority of shipments will clear customs in 3-5 working days, however, clearance can however take longer during busy periods or if further inspection is required, this is outside of the control of Send My Bag.

Shipments containing food items, cosmetics, toys and cutlery may be subject to additional sanitary inspection by customs which will incur an additional fee of around 40,00€ + VAT.

On this route, you are also required to visit the destination country’s official customs website and make yourself aware of any requirements, processes or fees, which may be due based on your personal circumstances and what you are shipping.

Upon arrival in the destination, you agree to comply with any customs processes, provide the customs authority with any information they request and to discuss the clearance of the shipment directly with the customs authority or our delivery partner in the destination.

General Personal Effects Customs Information

Personal effects are typically defined as used items which have been in the sender's possession for 6 months or more. If your shipment is checked by  customs and is found to contain brand new or commercial items, you shipment may not be assessed as personal effects. Keep this in mind if you are sending Christmas gifts or other new items. Please check with customs so you are aware of potential customs duties, follow any advice given and attach all necessary documentation.

In order to demonstrate that your shipment consists of personal effects, you will be required to complete a brief non-generic packing list online, entries to be made in the format: "5 x Cotton Dresses, 2 x Jeans, 3 x Pair of Gloves", and so on, rather than as "10 x Used Clothing".

As customs processes and allowances vary by country, we advise all customers take 5 minutes to check how their personal circumstances and what they are sending will be assessed under the prevailing customs regulations of the destination.

More information is available on our customs information page.

Customs Clearance Time

When a bag is stopped by customs for any reason (missing documentation, impromptu inspection, prohibited contents, commercial contents or further information required) Send My Bag records how long customs hold it for. Our historical statistics for this route indicate that if the customs authority stops your bag they will on average take 5 working days to process it and release it back to us for delivery.

Why Ship to Croatia?

Why Ship to Croatia?

Taking baggage abroad is becoming more and more of a problem recently. Airports are now charging more extortionate fees for checking in luggage, both budget airlines that won’t allow you to check anything in without paying a charge and normal airlines that add on huge expenses for overweight luggage by the kilo or for outsized equipment. There are other options, though, including sending your bags on ahead with Send My Bag. We’re able to send a driver to your doorstep who will pick up whatever you need to send and get it delivered to anywhere in Croatia, whether you don’t want the hassle of carrying your hiking or cycling equipment through the airport and across the country to your resort, or you’re refusing to pay extra airline charges. You could also use our service if you’ve done a bit too much shopping in Dubrovnik and your suitcase is now tipping the scales.

It's not just tourists who could benefit from our service. Students can send their possessions to Croatia to help turn their student accommodation into a home from home. This way they can bring with them many more items than they could take on a plane, and they can ship it all back home again when term ends.

About Croatia

About Croatia

Croatia is frequently described as a country that’s on the crossroads of Europe because of its location between Central and South-eastern Europe. The official language spoken in the country is Croatian and the currency that is used is the Croatian Kuna. The country experiences a generally temperate climate with warm summers and cool rainy winters, and the interior mountainous region, which is covered in thick forest, has an alpine climate with high snowfall in winter.

Croatia is one of the top places to head for a quick European getaway, whether it’s to one of the amazing ancient cities such as Dubrovnik, Split or its capital Zagreb, or to explore the rolling countryside and mountains. Parts of Croatia are very close geographically to Italy, but public transport is much more affordable here than in Italy, so you’ll find gorgeous rustic countryside, fit for truffle hunting, cycling and hiking , no matter what your budget. City breaks are a popular choice for tourists to Croatia. Head to Split for its wealth of history, including Roman ruins; Zagreb for boutique shopping, markets and traditional cuisine or Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site overlooking the clear blue waters of the Adriatic to catch some sun around the historic city walls.
