Post-Lockdown Travel Packing Essentials

It can be difficult enough packing your bags for a trip in normal circumstances never mind in the midst of a global pandemic. Certain countries, like Italy, have banned hand luggage on all flights and its possible other countries may follow. In light of this, we thought it would be good to put together this guide of the essential items that should be brought onboard to ensure safe travel in the coming months.

1. Mask

Most airlines, in all corners of the world, have a mandatory mask policy so this one is obvious. It is also required to wear a face covering when in airports and other travel areas. Wearing one isn’t just about protecting yourself, it’s about protecting those around you and in the tight confines of an aircraft it is absolutely essential for you to bring one on board; and wear it.

2. Hand Sanitiser

When hand washing with hot water and soap is not possible, hand sanitizers are the best substitute. We recommend travelling with a smaller bottle in your carry-on bag which can then be refilled with the larger supply in your hold luggage. Hand sanitizer can be hard to source in many destinations around the world due to its high demand so always bring some from home.

3. Gloves

Mask and hand sanitizer are talked about frequently, but we would also recommend packing washable gloves. The use of gloves to prevent the spread of COVID-19 has been disputed and experts warn they are no better than good hand washing. Therefore, only use seldomly and in each circumstance be careful of how you remove your gloves and be sure to wash thoroughly. Do not wash or reuse disposable gloves.

4. Disinfectant Wipes

Cleaning has been stepped up on aircraft and within airports but for peace of mind you could wipe down your own tray table or arm rest with disinfectant wipes. You should also bring these when you’re exploring your travel destination and use when necessary or preferred. Doorknobs, handles, chairs, and buttons can all harbour the virus and should be wiped down regularly.

5. Reusable Water Bottle

Definitely worth the investment, a reusable water bottle is another travel essential that gives you some peace of mind. Refill from home to stop you from using communal kitchens or stations. Be sure to wash thoroughly before and after every use and only refill yourself.

6. Portable Charger and Adapters

As you may have noticed, the last few months has seen retailers, restaurants, and other industries dealing with the public, moving further toward and preferring contactless payments. It is therefore essential that you pack a portable charger and the necessary adapters for the location you’re visiting to ensure your technology is always powered up. You can also download boarding passes and other travel documents to your devices.

7. Digital Thermometer

If you have any symptoms of coronavirus infection you should not be travelling. One common symptom is a fever but many of us often feel warm and convince ourselves we have a fever when really, we’re just overheated from activity or circumstance. In that case a small digital thermometer can provide some clarity and allow you to enjoy your holiday.
