Lufthansa Carry-On Baggage Allowance 

Economy Basic: 1 personal item only (no cabin bags)

Economy Light, Classic & Flex: 1 cabin bag & 1 personal item

Premium Economy: 1 cabin bag & 1 personal item

Business & First Class: 2 cabin bags & 1 personal item

The Lufthansa carry-on baggage size is 55 x 40 x 23 cm/ 21 x 15 x 9 inches; or 57 x 54 x 15 cm/ 22 x 21 x 5.9 inches for foldable garment bags. Bags must weigh no more than 8 kg/ 17 lbs.

The permitted dimensions for the personal item are max. 40 x 30 x 15 cm/ 15 x 11 x 5.9 inches.

If needed, passengers may also carry on board either a carry cot, pushchair or child seat for infants, and any required mobility aids, such as a wheelchair.

Lufthansa Carry-On Allowance Restrictions

Certain items are forbidden within Lufthansa hand luggage, including:

Firecrackers

Corrosive substances, such as acid

Battery-powered transportation devices, e.g. hoverboards

Camping stoves

Lufthansa Checked Baggage Allowance

On intercontinental flights the checked baggage rules are as follows: 

Economy Class (Classic/Flex): 1 checked bag up to 23 kg (50 lbs)  

Premium Economy: 2 checked bags, each up to 23 kg (50 lbs)

Business Class: 2 checked bags, each up to 32 kg (70 lbs)  

First Class: 3 checked bags, each up to 32 kg (70 lbs)

Bags may measure up to 158 cm/ 62 inches in total (width + length +depth).

For flights within Europe, the checked baggage rules are as follows:

Economy Class (Classic/Flex): 1 checked bag up to 23 kg (50 lbs)  

Business Class: 2 checked bags, each up to 32 kg (70 lbs)  

No bag may exceed 32 kg/ 70 lbs in weight, for health and safety reasons.

Economy Light fares include no checked baggage allowance, but bags can be added to your booking for a fee.

Lufthansa Checked Baggage Overweight/ Oversized Fees

Oversized or overweight bags are charged at EUR 50 / USD 57 on flights within Europe or EUR 120 / USD 138 on medium intercontinental flights (e.g. Europe to the USA, East Coast). Long intercontinental flights (e.g. Europe to US West Coast, China, South America, South Africa) EUR 150 / USD 172

Both oversized and overweight bags incur a charge of EUR 100 / USD 114 within Europe, EUR 240 / USD 276 on medium intercontinental flights or EUR 300 / USD 345 on long intercontinental flights 

Additional items of luggage that exceed your fare type’s free baggage allowance are charged as follows:

Within Europe: EUR 90 /  USD 100

Medium Intercontinental: EUR 90 / USD 100

Long intercontinental: EUR 90 / USD 100

Note that fees will be higher if additional pieces of luggage are also oversized and/or overweight.
