Best Oxford Nightlife for Students

We’ve put together a blog on the best Oxford nightlife for students as, although you may not typically think of Oxford as a top party destination, there are still plenty of clubs and pubs to go to for weekly student nights out. You may think that Oxford is too much of a classy city for parties until the early hours of the morning, but you can party as much as you want, without breaking the bank, in the clubs and pubs listed in this blog.

Atik

This is Oxford’s longest running nightclub, which first opened back in 1990. It was given a major makeover in 2015 and now has state-of-the-art lighting and sound, and even more space. You’ll probably end up doing the notorious club search for your friends at some point during the night, as the club has five rooms and can hold 1200 people.

The biggest weekly club night at Atik is Broke Mondays, when entry is £1 before midnight and selected drinks are also £1. So why not start your week off with a cheap and cheerful night out? You can also celebrate the end of the week without spending too much money, as every Saturday you can benefit from 50% off all drinks before 11pm. Also, keep checking out the club’s Facebook page to find out about fun and cheesy themed events, and competitions for drinks giveaways and VIP packages.

The Bridge Club

This is another super club in Oxford, where you can snap up more drinks deals and promotions every week. These include 5 for £10 on selected drinks and shots every Monday night before midnight – hard to beat, right?! The venue is seen as one of the classier ones in Oxford, but by no means does this mean less partying. Areas in the club include the main dance floor, a VIP lounge, an outdoor garden and a R & B room for all of the best bump ‘n’ grind classics.

The Bullingdon

The Bullingdon on Cowley Road in Oxford has recently celebrated over 20 years of gigs, clubbing, and live performances and been awarded with the title of Oxford’s best independent live music venue. It is, therefore, a great spot if you are looking for a more casual and chilled night and want to check out a variety of local, national, and international acts. However, you can also opt for club nights here, too, as the drum & bass, house, and techno DJ sets every Friday and Saturday night are a hit with students.

Are you into trying a variety of tasty and quirky drinks? The Bullingdon has a cocktail bar with over 40 creative cocktails, craft beers, and artisan coffees. Perhaps you’re into comedy and want to have a good laugh? The venue also has a comedy club every Saturday, called The Glee Club, when four stand-up comedians take the stage. Keep an eye out for 2019 event listings on the venue’s Facebook page.

Angel & Greyhound

This riverside pub is a 5-minute walk away from the University of Oxford and 15 minutes from Oxford Brookes University. This makes it is a great choice for when you want to go for drinks with your friends but don’t want to make the effort of getting ready and going ‘out-out’. Instead, you can pop in here after university and grab a pint, gin, cocktail, or whatever you fancy. There are two patio gardens, which are perfect for day and evening drinks when the sun is out. The Tavern-style bar inside, with its open fires, makes it a great little spot for winter drinks.

The Mad Hatter

One of the more fun and quirky venues that we’ve picked is this fairy-tale inspired cocktail bar. If you haven’t already guessed, everything in the bar is Alice in Wonderland themed. You can have a mad hatter tea party with their cocktails. Some are served in a teapot, others in a plant-pot, or a rose-tinted glass, and there is even one that is served in a flamingo. Every Thursday The Mad Hatter has a karaoke night with 25% off drinks and giveaways. Maybe you and your friends could switch clubbing for singing and have a laugh over drinks and karaoke. Or, you could go on a night when there are live performances and watch the professionals do the singing, instead. Keep checking the venue’s Facebook page for event listings.
