Sheffield is undoubtedly a top student city, with lots of undergraduates and postgraduates choosing Sheffield as their place of study. In fact, one of the city’s universities, Sheffield Hallam, is the 10th largest in the UK, and the University of Sheffield is one of the prestigious Russell Group Universities. With so many students choosing to study in Sheffield, it seems only fitting that we offer them some help when it comes to choosing a venue for their all-important nights out. If you are still deciding where you would like to study, check out this blog to get a glimpse into the social and party life that you could have in Sheffield.
This is a venue that has been crowned with the title of Best Sheffield Nightclub for three years in a row. If you chose to study in Sheffield, you would have it at your doorstep, as it is centrally located, close to both Sheffield Hallam University and The University of Sheffield campuses. This is a Sheffield super club, as the venue is huge – there is a spacious dancefloor area, a lounging area, four bars, two indoor garden areas, and even a warehouse-style club room located beneath the main club.
They know how to do things big at Code, and this applies to their club nights, too. Every Tuesday there is a club night called Wonderland when drinks are just 90p all night long! You can also get drinks for 90p on a Thursday night at the club night Jump Around, which is like a big kid’s party with inflatables, face-painting and confetti cannons, except that there is also alcohol and lots of students jumping around!
One of Sheffield’s best and longest running nightlife venues, Corporation opened in 1997 and has since been titled as one of the top 3 live music venues in the UK, and one of the UK’s top 3 rock clubs. The venue has hosted tonnes of live music shows ‒ over 140 in just one year! There is no sign of this slowing down as lots of events are listed for 2019 through to 2020. At Corporation they also run club nights with the best of alternative, indie, and rock music. Friday is their biggest alternative night, playing mashups of rock, pop-punk, dance, and metal music, and you can get a double Jack Daniels and coke for £4.00. Or you can start your week off with a club night at Corporation, when you can get a vodka and mixer for 70p or 3 Jägerbombs for £5 all night.
This is another live music and club venue that is located at Sheffield’s student union, which means it is at the heart of Sheffield’s student population. It is only open during term time, but during this time the staff certainly knows how to throw parties to enable students to let loose.
Every Saturday they run a student-only club night called Pop Tarts, which, as you’ve probably already guessed, is a night for singing your heart out and dancing all night long to pop hits by the likes of Beyoncé, Cascada, The Spice Girls, ABBA, Cyndi Lauper, Diana Ross and many more. Another event that they run on some Saturdays during term time is The Jam Jar Social, when you can get a Jam Jar signature cocktail for £3.95 or two for £7, a double gin and tonic for £3.95, and a pint for £2.70. They also throw big term-time parties in association with Sheffield’s student union, with big DJs performing at them. To find out about upcoming events, keep checking their Facebook page during term time.

If you’re looking for a more chilled-out venue, somewhere you can pop into after a long day at university, then this pub is one of the best spots, as it is within walking distance of both Sheffield Hallam University and The University of Sheffield. If you’re also feeling peckish and need something to fill your stomach before you start drinking, this pub has lots of fresh food dishes that have been a big hit with punters. It is a pub that is central to Sheffield, as it has been there for 300 years. You really can’t avoid visiting this historical gem, whether it’s for the whole evening or for some pre-drinks before heading out.
An Aussie-style chain bar that has locations across other UK cities and has been a hit in every one of them because of its laidback Australian vibes by day and Aussie-style party atmosphere by night. Walkabout is especially loved by students because of its daily food and drink deals and discounts. The students of Sheffield can take advantage of a discount card especially for students called mates rates, which you can use at any time in the bar to get offers on a variety of spirits and pints. Plus, a new club night has just recently been launched called Getting Jiggy With It, when drinks are just £2 all night long.
