All Cambridge University Lectures to Be Online-Only Next Academic Year

The University of Cambridge have revealed that all lectures will be online only for the 2020-21 academic year. It may be possible to host some smaller teaching groups if social distancing requirements can be followed and the situation will be constantly reviewed and changed to mirror government advice.


All university campuses have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and teaching moved online in March with exams also being carried out virtually.


The decision to extend the teaching to online only into the next academic year comes as a university watchdog insisted that students applying for places in England must be told with “absolute clarity” how courses will be taught before choices are made.


A statement from Cambridge states, “Given that is likely that social distancing will continue to be required, the university has decided there will be no face-to-face lectures during the next academic year.”


The University of Manchester has also said its lectures will be online-only for the next term.


Meanwhile, it is expected that there will be no change to tuition fees and a representative from the Office for Students has warned against promoting a “campus experience” should courses move to online teaching.
