You can take the Aussie out of Australia – but not without a jar of Vegemite!

From late-night Milo cravings to the unmistakable zing of Chicken Salt, new research reveals the Aussie snacks expats just can’t live without. As winter travel ramps up and baggage fees skyrocket, more Australians living abroad are shipping their favourite comforts from home rather than risking leaving them behind.
According to international delivery company Send My Bag, which surveyed nearly 500 Australians over the age of 18 living in destinations like Europe and the USA, these are the most-missed munchies making their way into care packages around the globe:
- Vegemite (25%)
- Tim Tams (22%)
- Chicken Salt (13%)
- Shapes (10%)
- Milo (9%)
- Twisties (7%)
- Arnott’s Biscuits (5%)
- Allen’s Lollies (5%)
- Cherry Ripe (3%)
- Lamington (1%)
The trend comes as Europe-bound winter holidays hit full swing and more Aussies are shipping items ahead to dodge rising airline baggage fees. According to Send My Bag’s latest research of 1,000 Australian travellers:
- 1 in 10 paid more for luggage than their flights
- 41% were forced to throw out items at the airport
- 37% paid up to $200 in excess baggage fees
- Nearly 1 in 3 wore extra layers at the gate to dodge charges
But it’s not just the shoes tipping the scales - it’s their emotional cargo, from Chicken Salt to Tim Tams.
“These everyday Aussie snacks carry big meaning for expats. They’re not just treats - they’re comfort, nostalgia, and connection to home. That’s why more travellers are shipping them ahead, rather than risking the cost or heartbreak of leaving them behind, ”said Adam Ewart, founder of Send My Bag.
