American Airlines has announced the launch of a new and premium wine delivery service that will bring a variety of luxury wines, usually sold on board flights, straight to your doorstep.
Aptly titled Flagship Cellars will offer age-appropriate customers the ability to choose from individual bottles of the airlines carefully curated collection of wines.
Speaking of the service, American’s Chief Customer Officer Alison Taylor said, “For wine lovers around the world, wine provides a deeper connection to the places they enjoy visiting,”.
Like most airlines, the US based carrier has operated a limited schedule for most of the past twelve months and it is hoped Flagship Cellars will allow it to recoup some of that lost revenue. In fact, the company hopes to generate sales of between $40,000 to $50,000 during the first quarter.
On the service, single bottles of wine will range in price between $13 and $40 while three, six or 12-bottle collections start from $50 up to as high as $400.
Customers can build custom wine boxes or purchase a monthly subscription which will include three prestigious wines for $99.99, including delivery. An introductory offer will reward those who sign-up for a subscription with a complimentary bottle.
AAdvantage members can also earn two air miles per dollar on each order, excluding taxes, shipping and fees.
The wine selection process consists of a review of nearly 2,000 different options, and selections are made almost a year in advance of customers tasting during onboard service or in the airline’s clubs or lounges.
Last summer American Airlines announced the suspension of alcohol sales to Main Cabin passengers excluding those on long-haul international flights, a measure designed to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.
Flagship Cellars, it seems, will aim to dispense of that wine surplus but will reportedly continue to operate even after Americans’ flight schedules return to pre-pandemic levels.
