Air France Hand Luggage Allowance:
‘Economy’: 1 bag with dimensions of 55 x 35 x 25 cm/ 21.7 x 13.8 x 9.9 in, plus a personal item measuring 40 x 30 x 15 cm/ 16 x 12 x 6 in. The total weight must not exceed 12 kg / 26.4 lbs.
Long-haul ‘Premium Economy’, all ‘Business’ and all ‘La Première’: two items of hand luggage, plus a personal item. The weight of all items must not exceed 18 kg/ 39.7 lbs.
Air France Carry On and Musical Instruments
Instruments smaller than 115 cm/ 45 inches in total dimensions can be brought on board as standard hand luggage. For larger musical instruments, prior approval from Air France customer service is required, at least 48 hours in advance. Such instruments will be placed on one or more extra seats, which must be paid for by the passenger. The maximum weight per seat is 45 kg/ 100 lbs.
Air France Hand Luggage for Infants
Infants travelling on your lap are entitled to a hand luggage item up to 12 kg/ 26.4 lbs that does not exceed 55 x 35 x 25 cm/ 21 x 13 x 9 in.
Air France Carry On and Prohibited Items
Certain items are too dangerous to carry in your hand luggage. These include:
Camping stoves containing gas,
Homemade alcoholic beverages.
Air France Checked Baggage Allowance:
‘Economy’: 1 x 23 kg/ 50.7 lbs free of charge depending on your route. ‘Premium Economy’: 2 x 23 kg. ‘Business’: 2 x 32 kg/ 70.5 lbs. ‘La Première’: 3 x 32 kg. Dimensions of each item must not exceed 158 cm/ 62 in (length+width+depth).
If travelling on a 'Light' or 'Basic' fare, all hold baggage must be paid for.
Air France Checked Baggage and Excess Baggage Fees
If bags exceed 158 cm or the baggage allowance provided in the fare travelled on, an extra fee will be charged at the airport. This varies according to the route travelled. Within Europe, an overweight bag on an Economy/ Premium Economy ticket incurs a fee of €70. On a flight from Europe to the US/ Canada, an overweight bag costs €85.
Oversized bags for travel within Europe will incur a fee of €75 to €300. On flights from Europe to the US or Canada, bags with dimensions exceeding 158 cm will be charged €250 to €310.
No item must exceed 32 kg/ 70.5 lbs.
Air France Checked Baggage for Children
Children with their own seat are allocated the same baggage allowance as adults. Infants travelling on an adult’s lap are allowed a hand luggage item weighing less than 12 kg/ 26.4 lbs with dimensions that do not exceed 55 x 35 x 25 cm/ 21.7 x 13.8 x 9.9 in., plus an additional baggage item up to 10 kg/ 22 lbs (unless travelling on a ‘Light/ Basic’ ticket). A collapsible pushchair and car seat can also be transported in the hold.
Air France Checked Baggage and Exceptional Items
Smaller sports equipment under 23 kg/ 50 lbs and under 300 cm/ 118 in. can be transported in the hold, and are considered as standard luggage. Other items require prior permission from customer service. Bicycles are not considered as standard luggage and incur an additional charge between €65 and €125 , depending on the route travelled.
Musical instruments can be transported as hand baggage, or in an additional seat, depending on the instrument size (see above). Or, instruments can be checked into the hold. Permission must be sought 48 hours in advance for instruments over 32 kg/ 70 lbs and/ or 300 cm/ 118 in. Instruments must be stored in a hard case when transported in the hold.
