EasyJet Cancels More Flights

Luton-based airline EasyJet, one of the biggest operators in the UK, has been forced to cancel more flights in recent days due to the ongoing travel restrictions in place in response to Covid-19.

According to an easyJet representative, the restrictions including the UK Government’s much aligned ‘traffic light system’, have caused the airline to adjust their schedule to ensure the “flying programme best matches demand.”

The spokesperson for easyJet insists the company are communicating effectively with customers and stresses the airline is offering “more flexibility than ever before”. 

Currently, anyone who purchases a ticket with easyJet can change their flights fee-free up to two hours before scheduled departure. Customers are also entitled to a full refund if affected by the recent cancellations.

At present, only twelve countries are on the Government’s green list for travel. Passengers returning home or arriving from Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Brunei, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, Falkland Islands, or Israel are exempt from quarantine measures.

EasyJet are calling on the UK Government to expand the green list and have their “aircraft and crews in flight-ready mode”. Should more destinations be added, the easyJet spokesperson says the company can “ramp up to 90 percent” of the fleet by summer.

While passengers arriving from green list countries are not required to quarantine upon arrival, they do still have to cover the costs of PCR tests for both legs of their journey.

EasyJet CEO, Johan Lundgren, has spoken against the traffic light system and believes much of Europe could be “opened up to safe travel.”

Meanwhile, EasyJet is working with Randox to provide COVID-19 test kits for any passengers required to take them.
