Australian Citizens Abroad Urged to Return Home

The Department of Foreign Affairs have advised all Australian citizens who are currently abroad to return home as soon as possible as countries across the globe continue to impose travel restrictions, closing their borders and enforcing temporary lockdowns.

Although Australia are not yet facing a full lockdown, such as implemented by the UK, the Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has banned all non-essential overseas travel and is facing pressure to implement stricter shutdown measures. With further border closures and lockdown measures impending to help tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, Australians overseas are being warned that they may not be able to return home at a later stage.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that as entry and movement restrictions in many countries “are changing often and quickly, you may not be able to return to Australia when you had planned to as commercial options may become less available.”
