Czech Republic Customs Information

Customs Information

Please take a moment to review important customs information before shipping to Czech Republic.

Personal Effects Customs Clearance Czech Republic

All shipments of personal effects being sent to the Czech Republic will require a copy of the consignee's passport along with their flight ticket confirming they are entering the country within 6 months of their shipments arrival.

Shipments that arrive in the country that cannot be cleared due to missing or incorrect paperwork will incur storage charges from our courier until the correct paperwork is provided to allow customs to release the shipment.  This is typically charged at around 150CZK per day plus an additional 3CZK per kilo of shipment weight per day and is not covered by Send My Bag.

Relocating to Czech Republic

In addition to the flight ticket and passport, the following documents will be required depending on the consignee's citizenship;

Czech Citizens

  • Czech National Identity Card
  • Proof of the consignee's occupation or employment will be required e.g. employment contract, and evidence of their residence such as a rental agreement, or confirmation of purchasing a home.

Non-Czech Citizens

  • Permanent Residence Card, or visa (must be valid for at least 12 months).
  • Proof of the consignee's occupation or employment will be required e.g. employment contract, and evidence of their residence such as a rental agreement, or confirmation of purchasing a home.
  •  EORI Code - this is applied for directly by the consignee on the Czech customs website here by completing a short form.

Students

If you are moving to the Czech Republic to study, then we will require a copy of your university or college enrolment or acceptance letter.  This needs to clear show the student's name, course name, name of the college / university, and the start and end dates of the course.

General Personal Effects Customs Information

Personal effects are typically defined as used items which have been in the sender's possession for 6 months or more. If your shipment is checked by  customs and is found to contain brand new or commercial items, you shipment may not be assessed as personal effects. Keep this in mind if you are sending Christmas gifts or other new items. Please check with customs so you are aware of potential customs duties, follow any advice given and attach all necessary documentation.

In order to demonstrate that your shipment consists of personal effects, you will be required to complete a brief non-generic packing list online, entries to be made in the format: "5 x Cotton Dresses, 2 x Jeans, 3 x Pair of Gloves", and so on, rather than as "10 x Used Clothing".

As customs processes and allowances vary by country, we advise all customers take 5 minutes to check how their personal circumstances and what they are sending will be assessed under the prevailing customs regulations of the destination.

More information is available on our customs information page.

About the Czech Republic

About the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic, situated in Central Europe, is a small landlocked country which borders south-east Germany, Austria, Poland and Slovakia. The currency used is the Czech Koruna and the official language and main language spoken is Czech. The climate in the Czech Republic is described as being generally mild, with warm and dry summers followed by fairly cold winters. Winter temperatures usually sit around zero, but occasionally can drop to way below freezing, with strong winds and snow lying on the ground for around 40 days per year in the low-lying regions. Summer temperatures are, on average, between 20°C (68°F) and 25°C (77°F), but can reach above 30°C (86°F).

The Czech Republic, formally part of Czechoslovakia, has a rich and varied history and culture. The country separated from Slovakia in 1993. The capital city Prague is a popular destination for long holidays spent exploring its history and culture, and for weekend breaks for hen and stag parties, given its vibrant nightlife and low costs.

The countryside of the Czech Republic is renowned for being especially beautiful, with several protected areas and national parks, as well as landmarks, including castles, caves and stunning mountains. Many tourists like to participate in cross-country skiing in the northern resorts during the winter, and hiking in the summer.

Other Ways of Shipping to the Czech Republic

Other Ways of Shipping to the Czech Republic

As well as sending parcels, baggage and luggage to the Czech Republic you could look into the following alternatives for shipping items internationally, especially if you need to send large, bulky items like furniture.

Air Freight to the Czech Republic

For sending large bulky items you could try air freight. Air freight usually takes about one to two days. This means it is quite a fast service, but it can be quite expensive, especially if you have a particularly large shipment. You will probably also have to pay for the help of a customs agent to handle customs clearance for you, and you will need to find a way to get your items to and from the airport. The price could, therefore, rise quickly. If you send internationally by air freight to the Czech Republic your items will likely arrive at one of the major airports, such as Prague, Brno or Ostrava.

Sea Freight and Container Shipping to the Czech Republic

Instead of air freight, you could choose sea freight, or container shipping, to shift large items like a fridge or a sofa to the Czech Republic. Since sea freight can take a number of weeks, it is best if you don’t need to receive your items immediately. This option can be cheaper than air freight, but you will still need to pay for the help of a customs agent and will need to arrange how to get your items to and from the ports. As the Czech Republic is a land-locked country, your items will probably arrive at a port in neighbouring Poland or Germany.

Shipping Goods to the Czech Republic

If you need to ship goods to the Czech Republic, you need to find out about any customs duties and taxes you need to pay, due to your items being brand new and not used personal effects. Also make sure you are aware of what items are restricted and which are completely forbidden from being shipped to the Czech Republic.  Take a look at the prohibited items and customs sections on this page for more information.
